Akwa Ibom Launches First International Flight to Accra

Akwa Ibom State has officially commenced its first international flight operations on the Uyo-Accra route, as announced by Governor Umo Eno. He described this development as a significant step toward boosting the state's economic activities.

The governor stated that the new route is expected to enhance tourism and trade within the region, positioning Uyo as a growing hub for international business engagement in West Africa. Eno emphasized that this initiative will facilitate easier connections to other countries in the sub-region.

Additionally, he revealed plans to strengthen the aviation sector by creating a dedicated ministry to oversee airport development and related activities, which will provide greater focus and direction. Engr.

Uwem Ekanem has been appointed to supervise this ministry pending the appointment of a substantive commissioner. Furthermore, the governor announced plans to expand the state-owned airline, Ibom Air, which is set to receive new Airbus A220 aircraft in June, continuing to enhance its fleet and aviation capacity.

Eno acknowledged the support from the federal government, including President Bola Tinubu and Minister Festus Keyamo, for past administrations.
