Akwa Ibom APC Rejects Consensus Candidate for Primaries

Stakeholders of the Akwa Ibom chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have unanimously rejected the proposal for a consensus candidate for the Ikot Ekpen Obot Akara State House Assembly seat, which is set to be contested in the party primaries scheduled for April 23 and May 30, 2026. The rejection was communicated through a communiqué issued after a meeting held on Tuesday.

Ubong Amadu, the former APC assistant secretary and spokesperson for the group, stated that the consensus process undermines the wishes of the majority and violates the principles of internal democracy as enshrined in the party's constitution and the Electoral Act of 2026. The stakeholders expressed their commitment to a direct primary process, emphasizing that any attempt to impose a candidate would be undemocratic.

They also reaffirmed their support for President Bola Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and Governor Umo Eno, highlighting the importance of performance-driven governance.
