Akwa Ibom Stakeholders Reject Uyo Lawmaker's Second Term

In Akwa Ibom, stakeholders have expressed strong opposition to the potential re-election of the current lawmaker representing Uyo State Constituency in the State House of Assembly for the 2027 elections. A socio-political group, which convened on May 17, issued a 13-point communiqué asserting that the Offot Ukwa clan should produce the next representative for the constituency.

The group criticized the current lawmaker's performance and argued that granting a second term would undermine the political arrangement established since 1999, which aims to foster peace and unity among the people. They emphasized that rewarding non-performing representatives would hinder local governance and disrupt political unity.

The communiqué also called for qualified indigenes from the Offot Ukwa clan to contest the elections and pledged support for any political party that aligns with their demands. The group warned against ignoring the zoning demands of the Uyo people, stating that they deserve better representation.
