Abak Stakeholders Reject Speaker Udem Otong's Third Term Bid

Stakeholders from Abak Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State have unanimously passed a vote of no confidence against Hon. Udem Otong, the incumbent Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, rejecting his bid for a third term.

The stakeholders expressed disappointment, alleging that Otong signed an agreement that made him the first beneficiary of a political arrangement designed to ensure fairness and equity among the clans in Abak. This agreement stipulated that the next representative for the 2027 state constituency elections should emerge from the Midim clan, as the current arrangement has seen the Abak clan dominate the position for 16 years.

The stakeholders emphasized that Otong's attempt to seek a third term is a direct violation of this agreement, undermining trust and unity among the people of Abak. They reiterated that the agreement remains sacrosanct and rejected any attempts by individuals or groups to distort or disregard it.
