El-Rufai Detained by ICPC Amid Corruption Investigation

Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, is being held in custody by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) as confirmed by his media aide, Muyiwa Adekey. El-Rufai voluntarily reported to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on February 16, 2026, and was subsequently transferred to the ICPC on the night of February 18.

The ICPC obtained a 14-day remand warrant on February 19, which allows for El-Rufai's detention until March 5. As of now, the anti-graft agency has not indicated any plans to charge the former governor in court.

Adekey also mentioned that a legal challenge against the remand warrant and the search warrant executed at El-Rufai's home on February 19 is being prepared.
