El-Rufai Remains in ICPC Custody Until March 2026

Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, is currently in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) until March 19, 2026, as investigations into corruption allegations continue. El-Rufai was arrested on February 18, 2026, following a request for a remand order that was granted by a magistrate court in Abuja.

The ICPC has accused him of money laundering and abuse of office during his tenure as governor from 2015 to 2023. His initial remand order was for 14 days, which has now been extended due to his refusal to cooperate with the investigation.

The ICPC is also looking into allegations of wiretapping related to national security. El-Rufai's arraignment was previously stalled due to his detention, and he has accused the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, of being behind his current predicament.

The ICPC is expected to conclude its investigations and either file charges or grant administrative bail.
