NAMA Faces N102 Billion Debt Crisis Amid Service Threats

The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) is under significant financial pressure, facing a total debt of N102.52 billion. This includes N34.69 billion in domestic receivables and approximately US$49.48 million in foreign receivables.

The agency is responsible for aircraft clearance, air traffic control, and safe air navigation services. The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) has threatened to withdraw weather services due to NAMA's failure to pay accrued charges, leading to planned protests by NIMET's union.

A letter dated June 29, 2026, disclosed that NAMA's major debtors include the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and various airlines, with debts totaling N23.94 billion. Despite these challenges, NAMA has paid N400 million to NIMET between April and June 2026.

Unpaid debts and cash flow crises have led to calls for the federal government to intervene and verify debtors to ensure the release of NAMA's outstanding revenues.
