NAMA Seeks 56% Share of Aviation Revenue Pool

The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has formally requested the National Assembly to increase its share of the statutory five percent aviation revenue pool from the current 22 percent to 56 percent. This request was made by Managing Director Engr.

Farouk Ahmed Umar during a public hearing organized by the House of Representatives Committee on Aviation. Umar explained that the rising costs associated with maintaining safety-critical infrastructure are placing significant pressure on the country's air navigation system.

He emphasized that NAMA's responsibilities commence long before passengers board an aircraft and continue throughout all stages of flight operations. He detailed that essential tasks such as processing flight plans, ensuring current aeronautical information, maintaining clear radios, and ensuring the functionality of navigation aids and surveillance systems are critical to safe air travel.
