According to the filing, Viswanathan has over four decades of international business and finance experience. He previously served as CFO and Joint Managing Director of Bosch Limited, and later as Managing Director, President and Country Head of Bosch Group in India. Prior to those roles, he held positions including Group Treasurer, Financial Controller, Head of Mergers and Acquisitions, and Audit Head for Asia Pacific at Hindustan Unilever Ltd and Unilever Plc.

The filing states that Viswanathan has chaired the boards of United Spirits Limited, a Diageo Plc subsidiary, and Bosch Limited. He has also chaired Audit and Risk Committees of several listed and unlisted Indian and multinational companies.

Board Chair Gopal Vittal was quoted in the filing welcoming the appointment and citing Viswanathan's financial, audit, and governance experience. The company disclosed that there are no matters requiring disclosure under UKLR 6.4.6. Airtel Africa operates across 14 countries in sub-Saharan Africa.
