Airtel Africa Q1 2027 Results: Revenue Up 31%, 189m Customers
Airtel Africa Plc filed its quarterly results for the period ended 30 June 2026, covering operating and financial performance across its African markets. The filing discloses revenue, customer base, EBITDA, capital expenditure, and capital allocation updates including a share buyback programme.
Airtel Africa reported total revenue of $1,853m for the quarter ended 30 June 2026, representing 31.0% growth in reported currency and 21.1% growth in constant currency terms. The company's total customer base reached 189 million, up 11.6% year-on-year, while data customers grew 15.5% to 87.3 million. Data usage per customer rose from 7.8 GB to 10.6 GB per month over the same period.
Nigerian revenues grew by 29.8% in constant currency, which the company attributed to the lapping effect of tariff adjustments implemented in Q4 2025. EBITDA came in at $928m, growing 36.6% in reported currency, with an EBITDA margin of 50.1%. Profit after tax was $198m, up from $156m in the prior period, though this was partially offset by an exceptional finance cost of $37m related to a commercial dispute settlement.
Capex rose sharply to $389m from $121m in the prior period, with over 920 new sites added during the quarter. The Airtel Money platform processed an annualised total payment value exceeding $245bn, up 51.5%, with 56.5 million customers. The Board approved a share buyback of up to 1% of issued share capital, with approximately 10.2 million shares purchased for $46.6m as of 30 June 2026. London was confirmed as the preferred listing venue for Airtel Money in 2026.
