Aiyedatiwa Defies Court Order, APC Congress to Proceed

Governor Lucki Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has declared that the APC state congress will take place on Tuesday, despite a restraining order issued by the federal high court that prohibits the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from proceeding with the congress. The court's ruling, delivered by Justice Toyin Adegok, came in response to an application filed by aggrieved members of the party's state chapter, which has faced significant internal crises, including violence that resulted in three deaths during a recent ward congress.

Aiyedatiwa convened a stakeholders' meeting at the party's secretariat in Akure on Monday night to inform party leaders about the court's ruling. He emphasized the need for unity within the party, stating that despite the tensions, the focus should be on maintaining peace and avoiding conflict.

Isaac Kekemek, the national vice chairman of the party in the southwest, noted that the party's national headquarters had not yet notified the committee about the congress, highlighting ongoing internal dynamics.
