Ondo Governor Aiyedatiwa Accused of Sponsoring Thug Attack

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State is embroiled in serious accusations regarding an attack on the APC state secretariat on February 17, 2026. During a stakeholders' meeting, thugs allegedly stormed the venue, assaulting APC caretaker chairman Adetimehin and seizing phones from party members.

The attack was reportedly orchestrated by Ademola Odudu, the state chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), under the governor's orders. Aiyedatiwa has denied any involvement, stating he was attending a 50th birthday ceremony for a cabinet member at the time of the incident.

This conflict is rooted in a deeper struggle for control within the APC, exacerbated by previous tensions following an impeachment attempt against Aiyedatiwa's predecessor, Rotimi Akeredolu. The ongoing divisions within the party highlight significant challenges as they prepare for future elections.
