Ondo State Calls for Action Against Child Abuse and Trafficking

During an event in Akure on Friday, Dr. Seun Osamay, representing the Commission for Women Affairs and Social Development, urged for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to enhance the child protection system in Ondo State. This call comes amid a rise in cases of child abuse, trafficking, and bullying, which threaten children's futures.

The appeal is part of the preparations for the 2026 National Children's Day celebration, scheduled for May 27. Osamay expressed concern over persistent challenges such as child abuse, neglect, trafficking, child labor, and poor access to quality education, which require urgent intervention.

She emphasized the theme of this year's celebration, which focuses on promoting inclusivity for every Nigerian child, urging stakeholders to work together to ensure no child is left behind. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the governor of Ondo State, and his wife, Oluwaseun Aiyedatiwa, were commended for their ongoing support for child welfare initiatives.

Osamay called on parents, schools, and community organizations to collaborate in creating a safe environment for children.
