Akpabio Advocates for Anioma State with Warri as Capital

Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President, has expressed strong support for the creation of Anioma State, proposing that Warri serve as its capital. This declaration was made during an address to members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the South-South Zonal Congress held in Asaba, Delta State.

Akpabio reaffirmed the commitment of the administration led by President Bola Tinubu to the initiative, which is expected to receive continued attention from the 10th Senate. He highlighted that Warri possesses key infrastructure, such as an airport, major oil companies, a seaport, and a stadium, making it suitable for the role of capital.

The creation of Anioma State is seen as a historical justification reflecting the long-standing aspirations of the people for equitable and decentralized development. Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North, has been championing this initiative, with 97 senators already signing documents endorsing the proposal, indicating unprecedented support as the constitutional amendment committee reviews it as part of broader reforms.
