Akpabio Supports Creation of Anioma State with Asaba Capital

On Wednesday, Senate President Godswill Akpabio declared his support for the proposed creation of Anioma State, naming Asaba as the suggested capital. This proposal, driven by Ned Nwoko, aims to increase state representation for the Delta North region in Nigeria.

Akpabio made this announcement during the All Progressives Congress (APC) South-South zonal congress, addressing party members and stakeholders. He clarified that he sees no issue with the demand for a new state in the area and outlined the arrangements necessary for approval.

Akpabio stated that relocating the capital of Delta State from Warri to Asaba would not pose a problem, asserting that the idea should not instill fear among Nigerians. He emphasized that the creation of new states is a natural opportunity for growth and development across the region, and he is proud to support the establishment of Anioma State, which would require a rigorous constitutional process involving the National Assembly and state houses of assembly, culminating in presidential assent.
