Akpabio: Military Probe Would Hurt Troops' Morale

Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Nigerian Senate, expressed that probing the military's spending would undermine troop morale and operational effectiveness, especially as Nigerian troops face multiple threats from terrorism and banditry. The Senate rejected a motion to investigate military spending, which was sponsored by Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, highlighting concerns over recent abductions in Oyo State.

Senator Adam Oshiomhole supported a comprehensive audit of military spending, arguing for greater accountability in the security sector. However, the Senate, led by Deputy President Barau Jibrin, dismissed the motion on procedural grounds, acknowledging the need for scrutiny but deeming public investigation inappropriate at this time.

Akpabio also denied reports regarding promises made concerning a senatorial ticket, asserting that such claims misrepresent his position and that he remains committed to resolving issues arising from the APC primary elections.
