Akpabio Calls for Unity Against Insecurity in Nigeria

On Tuesday, following the Sallah recess, Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Nigerian Senate, urged Nigerians to unite against the growing insecurity in the country. He condemned the recent abduction of schoolchildren and a teacher in Oyo State, describing the incident as a tragedy that strikes at the heart of the nation.

Akpabio lamented the death of two educators, Michael Oyedoku and Adeshon Adeboy, during the attack, emphasizing that such acts of violence are assaults on the collective conscience of the nation. He commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for ongoing security efforts and cautioned against impatience in rescue operations, noting that such missions require careful planning to avoid further casualties.

Akpabio also warned politicians against exploiting national tragedies for political gain and stressed the need for unity in addressing insecurity. He directed Senate leaders to schedule a security summit aimed at producing recommendations to enhance nationwide security operations.
