Akpabio Celebrates Workers, Commits to Welfare Reforms

On International Labour Day, Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Nigerian Senate, extended congratulations to Nigerian workers, commending their resilience and hard work despite facing numerous challenges. In a statement signed by his special adviser on media and public affairs, Esem Eyiboh, Akpabio recognized various professions, including teachers, farmers, doctors, nurses, artisans, traders, civil servants, security personnel, and private sector employees, describing them as the true heroes of democracy and the economy.

He acknowledged the rising cost of living and workplace pressures confronting workers and assured that the 10th National Assembly remains committed to advocating for living wages, safer workplaces, and pension reform policies that protect the dignity of labor. Akpabio highlighted the ongoing passage of a new national minimum wage act and called on both public and private sector employers to prioritize worker welfare.

He pledged continued partnership with labor organizations to ensure that workers' voices are reflected in policies and laws, reaffirming the Senate's dedication to improving the future for all Nigerian workers.
