Akpabio Calls for Unity Against Banditry in Nigeria

Senate President Godswill Akpabio urged for national unity to effectively combat banditry during a welcome address at the resumption of the Senate's plenary session following the Sallah recess on Tuesday. Akpabio's remarks came in response to the abduction of school children and a teacher in Oyo State, which he described as a tragedy that has shaken the nation.

He stated that such attacks are not merely assaults on innocent citizens but are assaults on the collective humanity of the nation. Akpabio expressed hope and determination for the government's security agencies to ensure the safe rescue and reunification of the victims with their families.

He observed a minute of silence in honor of the victims and extended condolences on behalf of the Senate to the affected families and the school community in Oyo State. Akpabio also reminded lawmakers of their responsibility as custodians of the hopes and aspirations of Nigerians, emphasizing the need for a greater nation.
