Akpabio Warns Makinde on Statements Against FG Security Efforts

Senator Godswill Akpabio, the President of the 10th National Assembly, cautioned Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde regarding his statements that could undermine federal efforts to tackle terrorism and kidnapping. This warning was issued during a Senate plenary session where a motion was sponsored by Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, commending the successful rescue of victims abducted in Oyo State.

Akpabio praised the armed forces and security agencies for their efforts, noting the loss of security personnel during operations, including Lieutenant F. Isaac of the Nigerian Army and Private Sila Musa.

He urged the federal government to ensure prompt payment of benefits to the families of fallen personnel and to enhance the welfare and training of security forces. The Senate also called for intensified military intelligence operations against terrorist and criminal groups.

Governor Makinde had previously called for a United Nations-led investigation into the abduction of 39 pupils and six teachers, which occurred on May 15, 2026.
