APC Faction in Benue Plans to Oust Governor Alia

A faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Benue State, loyal to Georg Akum, is reportedly strategizing to unseat Governor Hyacinth Alia ahead of the 2027 elections. This group, which includes former Attorney General Michael Aondoakaa and former Governor Samuel Ortom, is dissatisfied with Alia's leadership and aims to form a political alliance with the People's Democratic Party (PDP).

Aondoakaa has been vocal in criticizing Alia's governance style and attended a PDP caucus meeting in Makurdi, where he disclosed plans to support Akum's faction. Despite Alia's spokesperson, Tersoo Kula, defending the governor's administration against internal criticism, the APC is facing significant rifts, evidenced by parallel congresses producing rival chairmen.

The situation has drawn attention from political observers, especially given the vice president's call for peace. The Akum faction's attendance at the PDP meeting indicates a potential shift in party dynamics and raises concerns about Alia's re-election prospects.
