Akume Loyalists Form Alliance to Challenge Alia in 2027

In Benue State, a faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) loyal to Senator George Akume is reportedly strategizing to unseat Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia in the upcoming 2027 elections. This initiative was highlighted during a recent caucus meeting of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), which included former Governor Samuel Ortom and prominent APC figures like Michael Kaase Aondoakaa.

Despite Senator Akume's commitments in Abuja, he remains dedicated to ensuring Alia's defeat. The meeting underscored the growing rift within the APC, with rival factions led by Austin Agada and Benjamin Omal, as Akume's loyalists express concerns over losing influence within the party's structure.

The APC's internal tensions have prompted some members to seek alternative alliances, including collaboration with the PDP. Governor Alia's spokesperson, Tersoo Kula, dismissed the notion of such partnerships, emphasizing a commitment to unity within the APC.
