Akume Urges Good Governance at Federal Induction Program

On May 18, 2026, in Abuja, Sen. George Akume, representing the Federal Government, charged the executive heads and governing boards of federal parastatals and commissions to uphold the principles of good governance, accountability, and integrity.

This directive was delivered during an induction program designed to deepen understanding of emerging government policies and procedures among chief executive officers and board members. Akume expressed concern over increasing conflicts and misunderstandings regarding the roles and responsibilities of boards and chief executives, which negatively affect institutional productivity.

He emphasized that governing boards should operate within their statutory mandates and refrain from direct involvement in daily administration. Akume outlined critical oversight responsibilities for boards, including protecting the long-term interests of the federal government and ensuring effective institutional practices.

He urged board members to familiarize themselves with operational guidelines to enhance compliance and service delivery in Nigeria.
