Akume Urges Federal Leaders to Enhance Accountability

On a Monday in Abuja, George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, addressed leaders of federal parastatals during an induction program. He urged them to strengthen accountability and cooperation within their agencies, aligning with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's "Renewed Hope" agenda.

Akume warned against the confusion between the roles of governing boards and chief executive officers, which he stated undermines efficiency. He emphasized that governing boards should focus on oversight and policy direction rather than daily administration.

Akume reminded board members of their responsibilities to safeguard government interests and promote effective risk management. He also called for appointees to familiarize themselves with the legal frameworks guiding their institutions to reduce friction and improve compliance.

The event was attended by Chris Ugwuegbulam, who was charged with delivering the message, and Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, the Permanent Secretary of the General Services Office.
