FG Raises Alarm on Weak Governance in Federal Agencies

The Federal Government of Nigeria raised concerns regarding weak governance practices within federal agencies, citing poor accountability systems and recurring conflicts in management. This warning was issued during an induction training program for chief executive officers and board members of federal parastatals and agencies, organized by the Bureau of Public Service Reforms in collaboration with the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung in Abuja.

Director General Dasuki Ibrahim Arabi emphasized the increasing public demand for accountability and effective service delivery, necessitating that politically appointed agency officials understand governance procedures. The program aimed to expose participants to government structures, public financial management, procurement regulations, and ethical conduct.

Moritz Sprenker from the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung noted that corruption and weak transparency structures remain significant obstacles to effective governance. He warned that entrenched patronage systems distort decision-making processes and that unresolved conflicts and poor accountability continue to undermine institutional performance.
