Alaafin of Oyo Refutes Claims of Late Arrival at Event

The Alaafin of Oyo, Akeem Owoade, has dismissed allegations made by Professor Ademola Dasylva, an English professor at the University of Ibadan, claiming that he arrived three hours late to an event at the Emmanuel Alayande University of Education on July 14, 2026. Dasylva criticized the monarch in an article published on the Toyin Falola Network, stating that the event was scheduled to begin at 9 am, with dignitaries already present, and that the Alaafin arrived at 12:20 pm.

He expressed disappointment over the lack of an apology from the Alaafin or his representatives for the delay. In response, Bode Durojaiye, the Alaafin's Director of Media and Publicity, stated that the monarch's arrival was in accordance with a schedule communicated to the event organizers and described Dasylva's remarks as reckless and culturally injurious.
