Alake Promises Justice for Slain Police Officer in Niger

Dr. Dele Alake, the Minister of Solid Minerals, has vowed to ensure justice for a police officer who was killed on Wednesday during a joint patrol operation aimed at curbing illegal mining in Niger.

The operation involved teams from the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), and local security operatives known as Anti-Drug Control (ADC), in collaboration with the Millennium Metal Mine Company. The incident occurred in Zuzungi, Katcha Local Government, during a routine operation to prevent unlawful smuggling of solid minerals.

The officer was attacked and killed by armed illegal miners, who also set the NSCDC Hilux vehicle ablaze. In response, the Minister has placed security intelligence agencies on red alert to bring the perpetrators to justice.

He emphasized that the federal government will not tolerate illegal mining and will take all necessary actions to defend its agents and maintain a zero-tolerance policy towards such activities.
