Policeman Killed by Illegal Miners in Niger State

Samson Emmanuel, a 26-year-old policeman, was killed by illegal miners in Zuzungi, near Kataeregi, in the Bosso Local Government Area of Niger State. The incident occurred last Wednesday during an ambush on a joint patrol involving the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), as well as a local Anti-Drug Control (ADC) outfit.

The patrol was reportedly intercepting individuals engaged in illegal mining activities at the site. The attack was confirmed by the NSCDC, which described it as occurring shortly before a U.S. congressional bill was presented by five Republican lawmakers.

This bill, titled the "Nigeria Religious Freedom Accountability Act 2026," seeks to address illegal mining in Nigeria and its alleged links to terrorism, particularly involving Chinese nationals.
