Police Officer Killed, Patrol Vehicle Burnt in Clash with Suspected Miners in Niger State

In Niger State, a police officer identified as PC Emmanuel Samson attached to the Mobile Police Force (MOPOL 12) was killed, and a patrol vehicle was destroyed during a violent confrontation with suspected miners at a mine site owned by Millennium Metal in the Zunzungi area. The clash erupted when a Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) team seized illegal mining products, triggering a backlash from local youths known as "Daba Bois." The youths mobilized and attacked security personnel, resulting in the tragic death of the police officer and the burning of the patrol vehicle.

The incident occurred on February 11, 2026, around 1:45 p.m. as security forces were conducting routine patrols within the mining site.
