Alex Iwobi Celebrates 100th Cap for Nigeria Against Portugal

Alex Iwobi reached a significant milestone by earning his 100th cap for the Nigerian national football team during an international friendly against Portugal on October 11, 2023, in Leiria, Portugal. This achievement places him among only three other Nigerians—Joseph Yobo, Vincent Enyeama, and Ahmed Musa—to have reached this landmark.

Iwobi debuted for Nigeria in a friendly match against the Democratic Republic of Congo in Belgium in October 2015. He played the full 90 minutes in the match against Portugal and received a commemorative plaque marking his 100th appearance, presented by Shehu Dikko, the chairman of the Nigeria Football Federation.

Iwobi expressed pride in representing Nigeria and reflected on his journey, including his decision to play for Nigeria over England, influenced by family, including his uncle, Nigerian football legend Austin Okocha. He has participated in four Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
