Algeria Women's Team Reaches WAFCON Semis, Qualifies for World Cup

On Saturday, Algeria's women's national team achieved a historic milestone by defeating Côte d’Ivoire 2-1 in the quarter-finals of the 2026 TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations held in Morocco. This victory not only secured their place in the semi-finals for the first time but also guaranteed their automatic qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

The match saw Côte d’Ivoire take an early lead through Ines Konan in the 30th minute. However, Algeria's fortunes changed when Côte d’Ivoire's Habibou Ouedraogo received a red card before half-time, reducing her team to ten players.

Algeria capitalized on this advantage, with second-half goals from Ines Khiri and Amira Ould Braham turning the match around.
