Alia Denies Embezzlement Claims by Ortom and Aondoakaa

On 12 September 2026, Benue State Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia refuted allegations of embezzlement of local government funds made by his predecessor, Samuel Ortom, and former Minister of Justice Chief Michael Aondoakaa. Alia's Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, labeled the claims as "mere propaganda," asserting that the Alia administration is committed to enhancing local government operations.

Kula explained that local councils operate autonomously, with the state government providing 60% funding for joint projects, while councils contribute 40%. He cited various infrastructure projects, including roads in Guma LGA and Katsina-Ala, highlighting a 5km asphalt road in Udei and a 21km Yooyo road.

Kula emphasized that Governor Alia is not misappropriating funds but is instead investing in local governments. He criticized the political alliance between Ortom and Aondoakaa, describing it as "poison" that could harm the state.
