Benue Governor Alia Affirms Local Government Autonomy Success

Rev. Father Hyacinth Alia, the Governor of Benue State, stated that local government autonomy is functioning effectively within the state, emphasizing that Benue remains fully compliant with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria.

During a briefing at the State House in Abuja, Alia declared local government autonomy as sacrosanct and noted that local councils enjoy full autonomy to execute projects independently. He praised the economic reforms initiated by President Bola Tinubu, which are designed to enhance the state's financial capacity, improve security, and revitalize infrastructure, particularly in agriculture and healthcare.

Alia mentioned that the state government is focused on rehabilitating 550 kilometers of roads and constructing 420 kilometers of new roads, alongside upgrading healthcare facilities. He also discussed measures to improve security, enabling internally displaced persons to return to their communities and resume farming.

Alia reassured residents that all additional resources accrued to the state would be managed transparently and responsibly.
