Akeddei Solar Hybrid Minigrid Project Advances in Bayelsa

The Akeddei Solar Hybrid Minigrid Project in Bayelsa State has reported substantial progress, backed by a $532,828 grant awarded to Darwai Coast Ltd. This initiative aims to develop a 195 kWp solar hybrid minigrid, which is expected to connect 451 homes and businesses, significantly improving daily life in the community.

The first phase of the project, part of the Niger Delta Electrification Project, targets 80 kWp and aims to provide reliable electricity, allowing businesses to extend operating hours and reducing energy costs for households. Local youth are being trained for long-term technical and administrative roles, enhancing employment opportunities.

The project is anticipated to be completed by Q2 2026, with visible progress already noted. Henri Ureh, CEO of Darwai Coast Ltd, emphasized the commitment to delivering affordable and reliable electricity, which is expected to drive economic growth and improve the quality of life in Akeddei.

The project is seen as a model for similar initiatives in the region.
