Allegations of Bribery Rock EFCC, Group Demands Action

The Coalition for the Protection of Nigeria's Integrity (CPNI) has raised alarms regarding serious allegations of bribery and case compromise involving Samuel Chime, a suspended prosecutor at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). During a press conference in Abuja, Shehu Dauda, the national coordinator of CPNI, emphasized that the allegations against Chime are too grave to overlook, as they undermine public confidence in the anti-graft agency.

The coalition commended Ola Olukoye, the EFCC chairman, for ongoing disciplinary reforms but urged the agency to conduct a thorough investigation into the allegations against Chime. The coalition's report indicates that Chime's suspension followed a petition from civil society organizations and individuals concerned about his alleged misconduct.

Dauda highlighted the need for a review of the case handling and prosecutorial conduct, citing the potential abuse of power and the impact on innocent citizens and business owners. The coalition also praised whistleblowers for bringing attention to the allegations and called for strengthened internal monitoring mechanisms within the EFCC.
