Abuja Protest Demands Justice for Alleged Coup Suspects

On a recent date, relatives of individuals accused of plotting a coup staged a protest at the entrance of a ministry in Abuja. The demonstration aimed to draw attention to the handling of the alleged coup case, particularly criticizing the secretive nature of court martial proceedings.

Protest leader Isimili appealed to President Tinubu for justice and mercy, highlighting the struggles faced by families of the detained suspects. Among the protesters was Habibat Muhammad, who carried her year-old child, emphasizing the impact of the detentions on families.

The protesters demanded either the immediate release of the suspects or their arraignment in an open and transparent court process. The suspects face charges including treason, terrorism, and money laundering.

A director from the ministry declined to disclose names but urged the protesters to remain calm and submit their grievances formally. The protest reflects growing concerns over the treatment of the alleged coup suspects and the implications for human rights.
