Nigerian Military Detains 42 Officers Over Alleged Coup Attempt

The Nigerian military has detained 42 officers in connection with an alleged coup attempt, following the arrest of 16 officers initially. The Defence Headquarters clarified that the disciplinary actions were not directly linked to a coup but rather an attempt to disrupt Nigeria's democratic governance.

Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the extent of the alleged plan, with the Defence Intelligence Agency and other security agencies actively involved. Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sundai Dare, reaffirmed the military's loyalty to the constitution and the government.

Retired military officer Bashir Galma highlighted the importance of maintaining public trust amidst the unfolding events.
