Nigerian Military Detains 16 Officers Over Alleged Coup Plot

Fresh details have emerged regarding the detention of at least 16 Nigerian military officers accused of plotting to topple the government. The detained officers belong to the Nigerian Army, Navy, and Air Force, with ranks ranging from brigadier generals to lieutenants.

The alleged coup plot, which involved plans to assassinate key government figures like President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, and others, was reportedly uncovered in late September. The Nigerian Defence Headquarters has not directly confirmed the coup attempt but stated that investigations are ongoing.

The detained officers are said to have undergone training at the Nigerian Defence Academy between 2004 and 2008.
