Court Orders Remand of Ex-NBA Chairman Over Cyberstalking

On August 13, 2026, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik of the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered Gabriel Nkup Tsenyen, the former Chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association, Shendam branch, to be remanded in the custody of the Department of State Service (DSS) until August 20, 2026. This decision follows a two-count charge against Tsenyen for alleged cyberstalking and incitement of public disturbances.

His lead counsel, Emmanuel Esene, SAN, objected to the new arraignment, stating that Tsenyen had already been arraigned on similar charges, with a trial date set for September 28, 2026. The prosecution, represented by Muinat Oladunjoye, denied knowledge of any prior charges.

Justice Abdulmalik requested records from the earlier trial to ensure no double jeopardy occurred. The charges allege that Tsenyen sent a false publication via a local WhatsApp platform in May 2026, intending to cause public unrest in the Ngootuguut community.
