Court Orders Remand of Ex-NBA Chairman in DSS Custody

On August 13, 2023, the Federal High Court in Abuja ordered Gabriel Nkup Tsenyen, a former Chairman of the Nigeria Bar Association, Shendam branch, Plateau State, to be remanded in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS). This decision came after Tsenyen was presented with a fresh two-count charge of cyberstalking and incitement to breach public peace.

Justice Joyce Abdulmalik scheduled a hearing for August 20 to determine the validity of the new charges, as Tsenyen's lead counsel, Senior Advocate of Nigeria Emmanuel Esene, argued against the arraignment, citing a prior case on the same allegations that was adjourned until September 28. The prosecution, represented by Muinat Oladunjoye, claimed ignorance of any previous charges.

The judge requested documentation from the earlier case to assess the situation. The new charges were filed by Rotimi Iseoluwa Oyedepo, alleging that Tsenyen sent a malicious publication on a community WhatsApp platform in May 2026, intending to incite public unrest.
