Lawyer Demands Release of Commentator Dennis Odama

Etaba Agbor, Esq., the Secretary of the Nigerian Bar Association Young Lawyers Forum (NBA-YLF), has demanded the immediate release of Dennis Odama, a Cross River-based commentator, who was reportedly arrested and detained over allegations of cyberbullying. Agbor described Odama's arrest as a disturbing development that raises significant concerns regarding constitutional freedoms and the rule of law.

He noted that Odama has been an outspoken voice on governance in Cross River State, and while his opinions may not align with those in power, criticism of government should not lead to intimidation or arrest. Agbor stated that even if the allegations pertain to cyberbullying under the Cybercrimes Act, the offence is bailable and should not justify prolonged detention.

He urged the Nigeria Police Force to respect the fundamental rights of suspects and allow the legal process to unfold properly. Agbor called for Odama's release on bail, emphasizing that democracy thrives on accountability and public scrutiny of leaders.
