Irregularities and Violence Disrupt APC Primaries in Lagos

The All Progressives Congress (APC) primaries held in Lagos State faced significant allegations of irregularities and violence on Saturday, March 2023. Reports indicated that voter intimidation and disruptions occurred at various polling centers, particularly in Lagos Mainland areas such as Apapa Road, Makoko, and Iwaya.

Party member Kayod Olaiya accused supporters of Hon Kazeem Omolaja of disrupting the voting process and forcing delegates believed to be loyal to Hon Abdulhakeem Animashaun. This led to confusion among party members, with aggrieved loyalists accusing certain APC leaders of attempting to influence the outcome in favor of preferred candidates.

Concerns were raised regarding the credibility and transparency of the electoral process, as allegations surfaced that APC membership cards were not used during the accreditation. Olaiya rejected the election outcome, insisting it did not meet democratic standards.

The APC leadership in Lagos Mainland has yet to issue an official response to these allegations, which have raised fresh concerns about the integrity of the party's internal electoral process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
