Court Remands Kano Electoral Commission Chairman Over Alleged N1bn Fraud

The chairman of the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), Sani Malumfashi, along with Ana Muham Mustapha and Ado Garba, were remanded by the Federal High Court in Abuja for an alleged N1 billion money laundering offense. The presiding judge, James Omotosho, ordered their remand after they pleaded not guilty to the six-count charge brought against them by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).

The defendants were accused of unlawfully taking sums of N450 million, N310 million, and N260 million in November and December 2024. The court adjourned the matter until January 28 to consider the defendants' bail applications.

The defense team, led by Mahmud Magaji, sought bail for their clients, which was not granted immediately, pending the formal bail application.
