Court Orders Nnamdi Kanu to Defend Terrorism Charges

The Federal High Court in Abuja has directed Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to open his defense in the terrorism case brought against him by the Federal Government. Kanu, who has been in custody since June 2021, faces charges of treason and terrorism.

The court dismissed Kanu's submission challenging the case, ordering him to proceed with his defense. The prosecution argued that Kanu's broadcasts incited violence and challenged the legality of IPOB's proscription.

The court also directed the Nigerian Medical Association to confirm Kanu's health status by September 26.
