Court Fast-Tracks Trial of Six Suspects in Coup Plot

The trial of six suspects accused of plotting to overthrow President Bola Tinubu's government has been accelerated by the court. The suspects were investigated by the Nigerian Army and the Department of State Services (DSS).

The Chief of Army Staff, O.O. Oluyede, received intelligence reports leading to the arrest of Colonel M.M.

Aji, who was found with a Samsung Galaxy phone containing operational plans and names of key members involved in the coup plot. The prosecution, led by Rotimi Oyedepo, SAN, confirmed that the defendants had financial links to the coup, with evidence showing significant transactions from a company named Purple Wave.

Financial records indicated multiple debit transactions totaling hundreds of millions of Naira, allegedly for coup-related purposes. Meetings were held in Abuja to discuss the plot, with identified targets including military officials.

The investigation revealed a structured plan for executing the coup, with specific roles assigned to the defendants.
