El-Rufai Family Defends Against Wiretapping Allegations

The family of Nasir El-Rufai, the former Governor of Kaduna State, has publicly defended him against allegations of wiretapping and financial misconduct following a raid conducted by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). The ICPC executed a search warrant at El-Rufai's residence in Abuja on February 19, 2026, claiming to have recovered wiretapping equipment capable of intercepting conversations.

El-Rufai's son, Moham Bello El-Rufai, stated that the equipment seized was outdated and belonged to a discarded mobile phone from 20 years ago. The family argues that the search warrant was based on false premises and lacks credible evidence, labeling the ICPC's actions as a politically motivated attempt to discredit El-Rufai.

They plan to challenge the legitimacy of the search warrant in court, asserting that the ICPC's conduct reflects a broader issue of abuse of power and lack of professionalism within the agency.
