ICPC Recovers Surveillance Equipment from El-Rufai's Home

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has disclosed the recovery of surveillance equipment from the residence of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai in Abuja. The equipment is alleged to be capable of tapping conversations and accessing sensitive security documents.

This action follows an affidavit filed in the Federal High Court, where El-Rufai is challenging his detention, claiming it violates his fundamental human rights. The ICPC obtained a legal order from a magistrate court in Bwari, Federal Capital Territory, allowing them to detain El-Rufai for 14 days, which is set to expire on Thursday.

The commission is investigating allegations of corrupt practices, including the whereabouts of 1.4 million naira and 180 suspicious payments totaling 2,158,799,199 naira linked to Kaduna State's internal revenue account. El-Rufai's wife, Hadiza, and son, Moham, were present during the equipment recovery.

The ICPC maintains that their actions are lawful and requests the court to dismiss El-Rufai's application for release.
