ALTON Praises NCC for N300bn USSD Debt Resolution

The Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) commended the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) for its decisive action in enforcing the payment of a N300 billion USSD debt, which had accumulated over four years and posed a systemic risk to the telecommunications sector. During a strategic visit led by ALTON Chairman Engr.

Gbenga Adebayo to the NCC, they applauded the leadership of Dr. Idri Ibikunle and called for an end to multiple taxation that disrupts the sector's growth.

Adebayo highlighted the challenges faced by the industry, including static pricing despite inflation and rising operational costs. He emphasized the need for regulatory independence and harmonization of taxation to protect telecommunications infrastructure.

The meeting also noted the importance of recent government approvals for tariff reviews to ensure the viability of the sector, which has seen a gradual return to profitability and improved capital expenditure plans.
