Nigerian Telcos Urge NCC to Address Structural Challenges

During a visit to the Lagos zonal office of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), the Association of Licensed Telecoms Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) highlighted significant structural challenges faced by telecom operators in Nigeria. ALTON's chairman, Gbenga Adebayo, listed key issues such as fiber cuts caused by road construction contractors, which lead to substantial economic losses and disrupt critical digital infrastructure.

He urged the NCC, led by Dr. Idri Ibikun Olorunnimbe, to address these challenges to enhance service quality and connectivity across networks. Adebayo suggested the establishment of a mandatory coordinated framework to pre-construct fiber maps to mitigate the impact of fiber cuts.

The NCC expressed its commitment to supporting telecom operators and ensuring that no one is left behind in the deployment of internet connectivity, which is crucial for educational and research development.
