Amaechi Claims Buhari Stalled Electoral Reforms Over Hacking

Amaechi, a former Minister of Transport and Governor of Rivers State, alleged that former President Muhammadu Buhari declined to implement electoral reforms during his administration due to concerns over Russian hacking of Nigeria's electoral system. He made these claims on Thursday while addressing members of the opposition, criticizing political actors and citizens for their weak resistance to government actions.

According to Amaechi, the political crisis in Nigeria stems from the inability of opposition forces to organize effectively. He emphasized that the opposition must clearly distinguish themselves to facilitate political change.

Amaechi further revealed that efforts to reform the electoral system during Buhari's tenure were allegedly stalled by a minister who persuaded the former president not to approve proposed amendments, although he did not name the minister involved. He predicts that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will eventually begin advocating for electoral reforms, continuing his criticism of political leaders who often test public resistance before taking bolder actions amid allegations of corruption.
